One race ago, Guy Cosmo was battling Marino Franchitti for race victories but today on the streets of Baltimore the US/Scottish duo teamed up for the first time to take victory for Level 5 Motorsport.

Cosmo made the switch from ESM to Level 5 this week and has kicked off his career with his new team in the best possible way.

While team boss Scott Tucker’s day was ruined at the start in the dramatic crash, Cosmo was able to avoid the carnage and hand over to Franchitti at mid-race after a strong stint.

“The start was exciting for sure. I had the front row seat to see all that. A little accordion affect, such a shame to see Scott Tucker get hit and destroy the car before the first corner,” Cosmo said.

“It’s my first race with Level 5 and not see him finish and collect points. I missed the whole incident but we were able to press on and keep going today.

“When we knew it would be strange, we took all the advantages we could and just played it out that we had to take care of things when we needed to and not expect anything. We focused on our pit stops.”

Franchitti’s win moved him into the overall lead of the P2 championship while Cosmo – with points now with both ESM and Level 5 – sits second with three races remaining. While pleased to lead the title chase, the Scot was disappointed with how the race began.

“Massively disappointed for the Level 5 car and for all the cars involved. I don’t think anyone meant for anything like that to happen,” Franchitti said.

“I feel bad for the fans, it was certainly a quick one but a fun one. It was very exciting for everyone involved today. I was happy to come out on top.”
