New Corvette revealed
The new Corvette C7.R that will go for championship honors in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship was revealed this morning at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
With back-to-back American Le Mans Series championships under their belt with the C6.R – Corvette will tackle the new combined championship with 2013 champs Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia aboard the No.3 car and 2012 title winners Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner in the No.4 car.
With both Jordan Taylor and Richard Westbrook committed to full season drivers in Daytona Prototype machinery, Corvette has turned to IndyCar ace and former Level 5 Motorsports P2 star Ryan Briscoe to partner Magnussen and Garcia. Robin Liddell joins Gavin and Milner in the No.4 graduating from his race winning efforts for Stevenson Motorsports aboard a Camaro in GRAND-AM competition in recent years.
“When it comes to endurance racing, Corvette has been the benchmark of success for nearly 15 years,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.
“A great deal of the team’s success can be attributed to the symbiotic relationship between Corvette Racing and the production vehicles. The 2015 Corvette Z06 and new C7.R will be more competitive on the street and track due to successful design of the Corvette Stingray – which itself is heavily based on the C6.R race car.”
