Negri, Bamber set the pace in first IMSA practice at COTA

Ligier60-04_RD42136Ozz Negri put Michael Shank Racing’s Honda-powered Ligier JS P2 at the head of the Prototype class in the first 60-minute practice session for Saturday’s TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Lone Star Le Mans. Negri lapped the roller-coaster 3.4-mile Circuit of the Americas road course in 2:00.205 to take the top spot overall.

A trio of Corvette DPs shadowed Negri, with Dane Cameron second in the No. 31 Action Express Racing entry just .089 seconds behind the Ligier-Honda. Joao Barbosa was third in the No. 5 Action Express Corvette, and Richard Westbrook fourth in the championship-leading No. 90 VisitFlorida.com Racing Corvette DP.

Porsche912-05_RD42181Earl Bamber continued Porsche’s reign in GTLM, posting the category’s quickest lap at 2:05.231 in the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR. Points leader Patrick Pilet was second quickest in the sister No. 911 Porsche, and Dirk Werner was third in the No. 25 Team RLL BMW Z4 GTE.

Renger van der Zande set the pace in the Prototype Challenge category with Starworks Motorsports’ No. 8 Oreca FLM09. Jeroen Bleekemolen was the quickest driver in GTD in the No. 33 Riley Motorsports ViperExchange.com Dodge Viper SRT.

The session was stopped briefly by two red flags to retrieve cars that had stopped on the course. The second practice session for the 11th round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship will get underway at 4:35 p.m. local time.
