Nasr enters the Dragon in Formula E
Last year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Prototype champion, Felipe Nasr, is set to add another series to his 2019 schedule.
The Brazilian has been confirmed to make his ABB FIA Formula E Championship debut at the Mexico City E-Prix, which takes place February 16.
He’ll race with the Geox Dragon team, replacing Maximilian Guenther. Nasr joins Alexander Sims as 2018 full-time IMSA drivers now in the FE paddock.
“Felipe has demonstrated incredible talent, scoring 29 points in his two seasons in Formula 1, and winning the 2018 IMSA Prototype Championship,” Jay Penske, Owner of Geox Dragon, said in a release.
“He would be an invaluable asset to the evolving Geox Dragon organization. We would be thrilled to add a driver of his caliber to the team.”
The FE and IMSA 2019 seasons feature one clashing weekend, in April. IMSA races on the streets of Long Beach, California on April 13 while FE heads to Rome.
Nasr shares the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R with Pipo Derani in IMSA this year. Nasr, Derani and Michelin Endurance Cup third driver Eric Curran finished second in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
This should set Nasr up for a busy rest of 2019. FE has 10 more race weekends and as noted, Nasr would be free to compete at nine of them.
