Muscle Milk, Marino, Marcelli and Lizards Fly in the Night
Lucas Luhr kept the Muscle Milk Honda atop the timing screen during the night practice for Saturday’s 10 Hour/1000 Mile Petit Le Mans.
Luhr posted a 1:11.545 as the Muscle Milk squad reeled off a field high 63 laps in the two hour session on a perfect evening at Road Atlanta. That time edged past the #12 Rebellion Racing Toyota of Neel Jani was a slim 0.098 seconds. Dyson Racing’s Guy Smith was third quickest at 1:12.653.
Marino Franchitti took family and P2 class honors with a 1:13.853 to top brother Dario’s best time and place the #055 Level 5 Honda fourth overall.
Kyle Marcelli put the #8 Merchant Services at the head of the PC times with a 1:16.227.
The Nissan DeltaWing returned to the track and ran a trouble free program with Lucas Ordonez posting a 1:17.292 time in his six lap stint.
In GT it was Joerg Bergmeister in the #45 Flying Lizard Porsche squeezing out 0.035 seconds edge over 2012 GT champion Oliver Gavin’s #4 Corvette.
Extreme Speed Ferrari’s #02 of Guy Cosmo was third quickest with the #55 BMW of Bill Auberlen fourth followed by Jan Magnussen in the #3 Corvette and Marco Holzer in the #44 Flying Lizard Porsche.
The top seven GT cars were with 0.41 seconds.
Practice and qualifying continue Friday for Saturday’s race.
