Toronto-based engineering company Multimatic plays a key role behind the scenes in three different IMSA cars. Multimatic works with Ford on two cars, both the Ford GT and Ford Mustang GT4, and is also the chassis constructor of the Mazda RT24-P (the latter of which finished 1-2 at Watkins Glen International last weekend).

While developing the Ford GT, Multimatic worked hand-in-hand with Michelin developing the confidential range of tires for the car.

The GT initially had both IMSA and FIA World Endurance Championship specifications of tires, but this year both championships compete with the same range of compounds.

As Raj Nair, president and COO of Multimatic, explained, the dynamic relationship between Michelin and Multimatic has fueled success.

“When developing the Ford GT, we knew the key to performance would be to have the right tires on the car. From the beginning, the race car and road car have worn nothing but Michelins,” Nair said.

“Multimatic and Michelin engineers working closely together has resulted in the Ford GT delivering a great driving experience on the road and victories on the track.”

Ford had a banner weekend at CTMP in 2018, winning both with the GT and Mustang GT4 in separate races.
