Mosport roller coaster results
American Le Mans Series teams road a roller coaster of emotions with amazing results in every class at the Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport.
Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr took victory for Muscle Milk Team Aston Martin but not before getting a mid-race scare when the pits were opened by officials under yellow after Luhr had already passed the entrance.
Luhr had to pit after the GT cars had been serviced and lost what had been a very large lead.
Luhr and Graf were able to fight back over the remainder of the event to claim back-to-back Mosport victories for the Muscle Milk team.
Corvette Racing took its first victory of the year with Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen after the dominant BMW of Dirk Werner and received a stop-go penalty for avoidable contact late in the race with the GTC leader. The delay was enough for the Vette duo to leap into the lead with the Risi Ferrari of Toni Vilander and Jaime Melo in second.
While Gunnar Jeannette and Ricardo Gonzelez were never threatened in the LMPC class – their teammates Jon Bennett and Frankie Montecalvo certainly had their share of “roller coaster” time.
An early off for Bennett sent him to the pits early – this was followed later by contact with the LMPC machine of Jon Field bringing on another unexpected stop.
Bennett and Montecalvo fought their way back through the pack to eventually inherit second place on the final lap with the cars of Jon Field and Anthony Nicolosi ran out of gas. This gave the CORE autosport team its first 1-2 finish.
Spencer Pumpelly and Duncan Ende triumphed in GTC after being the victim of Werner’s aggressiveness earlier in the race. The duo triumphed in a late race battle with TRG teammates Dion von Moltke and Marc Bunting.
