Mid Ohio 2010 Highlights
The 2010 American Le Man Series round at Mid-Ohio provided some special memories for racers and fans alike.
Drayson Racing’s Jonny Coker and Paul Drayson scored their first pole, but hopes were derailed by an early spin. Dyson Racing’s Chris Dyson withstood a late charge by Highcroft Racing’s Simon Pagenaud to score the first ALMS overall race wins for co-driver Guy Smith, Mazda, and isobutanol fuel.
The GT category provided its own drama. The Rahal BMW team twice made brilliant strategic calls by recognizing a car off course in a location that would require a full-course yellow and pitting on the lap before it came to leapfrog to the front of the tight GT field.
The hero moment of the race came on the subsequent restart. Risi Competizione Ferrari’s Jaime Melo, having taken just two left side tires on his final pit stop, put both right side wheels on the grass and passed both BMWs in a single move to take the GT win.
