Michelin Tech Tips: Daytona and Sebring

March 29, 2019

The “36 Hours of Florida” are in the rear view mirror. With that said, here are the first two Michelin tech tip minute pieces from the NBCSN broadcasts.

At the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s two longest races, the Rolex 24 At Daytona and Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Michelin faced new challenges.

NBCSN pit reporter Jon Beekhuis breaks down what these challenges were in the tech piece.

At Daytona, it was preparing for a massive order of magnitude increase. Year on year, Michelin went from one class in one series with five brands and nine cars to three series, seven classes and 115 cars.

In Sebring, it was about handling the track’s notorious bumps. In theory, the track is considered “flat.”

But this piece explains how much vertical travel a right front MICHELIN tire endures over the course of one lap of the 3.74-mile circuit. It’s some 18 feet!
