Note 24 of 24: Lucky 13 for Michelin in Record Fashion
Michelin scored its 13th consecutive overall win today at the 2010 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and broke the previous record for distance with nearly an hour remaining.
Michelin teams claimed the wins in all four classes, raising the Michelin record of class wins at Le Mans to 35 of a possible 44 since 2000.
The race winning “young” Audi squad of Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Mike Rockenfeller set the new record 397 laps for the 24 Hour race. The 1-2-3 sweep saw all three Audi cars break the former record.
The previous record of 382 laps or 3,234 miles was set last year by Peugeot.
Literally half of the field of 56 starters were classified as retired as the combination of a furious race pace and lack of rain and a limited number of full course cautions contributed to the new record.
