Michelin Motorsport 2020 IMSA Review Video

The 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season saw unprecedented challenges.

For Michelin, IMSA and partner teams and manufacturers, it took a concerted effort and adherence to safety protocols to serve up an exciting and successful race season.

While the Rolex 24 At Daytona went ahead as normal before the several-month shutdown, things changed once staff arrived in March for what would have been SuperSebring.

“Eight months ago we were at Sebring, ready for the WEC and IMSA Twelve Hours of Sebring with 13,000 tires, and suddenly we had to pack everything!” says Tony Ménard, director of motorsport, Michelin North America.

“Thinking back eight months later on, 10 rounds later, we were able to do the job and deliver the services to our colleagues, partners and teams, that’s a great achievement.”

“It has been possible because of our partners,” Ménard added.

“IMSA was extremely agile. They built new protocols and put them in place in a safe and healthy environment.

“Our partners Jackson Motorsports being able to set up and run the workshop, fit tires and balance tires.

“And of course the Michelin crew; we are operating with 40 percent of the workforce we would have had in March.

“So finding new ways of working, delivering different services, but still trying to give the best advice to teams and partners, was a challenge.

“But I think we did it; we did it because of our people. And we learned a lot!”
