Michelin 100th Race with Corvette Racing

June 22, 2013

vette_michelinThe 2013 season is the tenth consecutive season and the 24 Hours of Le Mans becomes the 100th race for Corvette Racing as a Michelin technical partner team.

Ironically, Corvette Racing’s switch to Michelin was prompted in part by the success of a Michelin fitted Prodrive Ferrari here at Le Mans as it topped the defending class champions from Corvette by ten laps in the 2003 race.

Through the first 99 races of the Corvette Racing –Michelin technical partnership, there are 57 class wins for Corvette Racing in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in 90 races with Michelin. Included are six wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring (including 2013) and five wins at Petit Le Mans.

The combination has also produced six ALMS driver championships
and six ALMS Manufacturer and Team championships (including all in 2012).

Corvette Racing has won GT class honors in six of the last thirteen ALMS races, including the 2013 Sebring 12 Hours (Gavin/Milner/Westbrook).

Corvette Racing driver Jan Magnussen and co-driver Antonio Garcia scored the most recent victory for Corvette Racing, winning the ALMS Monterey Grand Prix last month.

Magnussen made his Corvette Racing debut in the team’s first race with Michelin at Sebring 2004.

Here at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Corvette Racing has five class wins in nine races at Le Mans with Michelin (2013 is the 10th Le Mans with Michelin)

The most recent Corvette win at Le Mans was 2011 with Antonio Garcia, Tommy Milner and Olivier Beretta.
