Miami racing history
It has been 12 years since motorsport hit the streets of Miami. Michelin teamed with Audi to post Miami IMSA wins in 2002 and 2003, the last time that the big sports car raced downtown.
What made Audi’s victory at the 2002 Cadillac American Le Man’s Challenge truly historic was that Audi’s Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro won the pole, set the fastest race lap and won the two hour 45 minute race using just one set of Michelin tires!
The winning Audi R8 LMP1 turned 122 race laps of the 1.387 mile circuit, plus qualifying. It marked the first time that a team won an ALMS race using just a single set of tires.
Here at Miami FIA Formula E—drivers will have one set of Michelin special Formula E tires and a front and rear spare available for two practice sessions, qualifying and the one hour race.
