Marquez extends COTA MotoGP win streak to six years straight

April 23, 2018

Marc Marquez has continued his dominance at the Circuit of The Americas, with his sixth consecutive MotoGP race victory in as many attempts.

Marquez overcame a three-spot grid penalty on the first of 20 laps to immediately grab the lead, then pull away with it. He rode his Repsol Honda equipped with medium and hard MICHELIN Power Slicks front and rear, and won by 3.5 seconds over Maverick Viñales, the polesitter from Yamaha. Andrea Iannone of Suzuki came third.

The win came in Marquez’s 93rd start in MotoGP’s top class, while riding the No. 93 Honda.  The win is also Michelin’s 399th premier class victory since 1973.

Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) completed the top-five. Points leader Cal Crutchlow (Honda) failed to score.

Dovizioso moves into the championship lead with 46 points after this result. Marquez is now second, just one point back, while Viñales is third, five points back. Crutchlow, Johann Zarco, Iannone and Rossi are all within 17 points of Dovizioso.

The series returns to Europe for the fourth round of the season at Jerez in Spain, on May 6.
