Making their mark on GTLM
Corvette Racing took the points in the opening two races of the year in GTLM, Porsche won on the streets of Long Beach and the Ford pack has leaped to the front in recent races.
The balance of performance is a constant point of discussion but the pace has been spread across the different manufacturers.
Porsche’s Nick Tandy, Scuderia Corsa Ferrari’s Alessandro Pier Guidi and Ford’s Richard Westbrook each have a pole already this season, while BMW’s Bill Auberlen has two.
Corvette’s Antonio Garcia, BMW’s Auberlen, Ford’s Dirk Mueller, Scuderia Corsa Ferrari’s Pier Guidi and Ford’s Joey Hand each have a fastest race lap.
Teammates Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner (Corvette) plus Earl Bamber and Fred Makowiecki (Porsche) have each have three podium finishes in the first five races.
BMW Team RLL’s Auberlen and Werner and Ford’s Ryan Briscoe and Westbrook each have two podiums.
Corvette’s Jan Magnussen and Garcia, Risi Ferrari’s Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander, Scuderia Corsa’s Daniel Serra and Pier Guidi, Ford’s Hand and Mueller and Posrche’s Nick Tandy and Patrick Pilet each have a podium as well.
After a season of horrific luck to date, BMW’s Lucas Luhr and John Edwards have yet to claim their first GTLM podium of the year.
All have their sights set on making amends this weekend.
