Magnussen ready for the battle
Corvette Racing has won back-to-back American Le Mans Series GT championships but Jan Magnussen is fully aware the fight for the GT Le Mans honors in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship is going to be fierce.
Both the No.3 and No.4 Corvettes have been strong in the Roar before the 24 test this weekend running in its “checkered flag” livery. The definitive look for the 2014 Corvette assault is expected to be revealed next week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
“It is going to be an exciting season starting here at the Rolex 24 at Daytona then then straight to the 12 Hours of Sebring – that is quite a tough start to the season,” Magnussen said.
“It will be interesting to see how the whole merger pans out with all the different classes and different cars out there.
“This week has gone well at Daytona and we’re well prepared for the 24 Hour. It is a little bit different for me here because usually I’m here as the third driver but now there is more on the line than just trying to win the Rolex.
“We also have to come away from here hopefully with a lot of points to see if we can get a championship.
At the Rolex 24, Corvette will battle two car factory teams from BMW, Porsche and SRT; a single factory Aston Martin and Risi Competizione and Krohn Racing with factory supported Ferraris.
“For sure the fight in GTLM is going to be tight. It is difficult to know where the main competition is going to come from and where we are in the mix,” Magnussen said.
“We think we’ll be up front but it is a little early to tell. If it is anything like last year it is going to be a very fierce fight.”
Magnussen will again team up with Antonio Garcia in 2014. Ryan Briscoe fills the third seat for the endurance events. Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin return in the No.4 car -joined by Robin Liddell for the enduros.
