Magnussen and Garcia win again
Magnussen and Garcia win again
The No.3 Corvette has had a lot of success here in Canada in the past and Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen lived up to those expectations today by taking their fourth consecutive TUDOR United SportsCar Championship championship win today.
Magnussen chased eventual runner-up Kuno Wittmer in the opening stint and gained the lead when the Canadian was forced wide by a BMW and ran off entering Moss Corner.
Once the No.3 car was in the lead – there was no turning back. Magnussen quickly handed off to Garcia who managed the gap for the remainder of the race to win again.
The victory sets a new record for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship – no other combination in the series has taken more than two victories in the championship’s inaugural year.
“All the first stint we were bumper to bumper and on the second one, I did maybe the best gap of eight seconds because of traffic,” Garcia said.
“It was really hard for me. I was expecting some more safety cars also and counting on them to maybe save some of the tires to run more at the end. Everything went perfect. The Corvette racing team did a great job on every session, we only missed qualifying basically by a little bit but overall we had a really good race.”
With four wins in a row, Magnussen and Garica have opened up a 19 point gap in the championship.
“For sure, things are working really well for us,” Magnussen said.
“The team is doing a fantastic job, both back at the shop and at the track on the weekends. It’s by no means easy what we’ve achieved with the four wins.
“Today was nothing different. It’s difficult out there, and you have to be so precise. and really work the traffic. That is where the big gains can be made. You can gain a tenth or two by driving well in traffic, but I think thats where we make our advantage.”
