Lux grabs LMPC points lead
Eric Lux and Elton Julian not only overcame previous championship leaders CORE autosport to take the LMPC points lead going into Petit Le Mans – they did it with one man on the sidelines.
Third driver Michael Guasch actually injured his ankle at the track and could not drive – his teammates telling the post-race press conference it was either severely sprained or possibly broken.
This left Julian with a monster stint – just shy of four hours to take the flag. A late pit stop from Gunnar Jeannette in the CORE car gave the Genoa Racing car the advantage and a late race yellow eliminated Genoa’s need to make a late pit stop.
Despite a late race charge from Jeannette, Julian held on by 0.329 of a second and delivered Lux a three-point lead in the driver’s championship with only one race remaining.
Third place went to Canadian hot-shoe Kyle Marcelli who teamed with the Chapman and David Ducote in the Intersport Racing entry.
