Luhr’s first Muscle Milk pole for ’13
Muscle Milk Pickett Racing’s Lucas Luhr scored the team’s first American Le Mans Series pole position at Lime Rock Park today with a stunning lap in qualifying around the 1.5 Connecticut “bullring”.
Luhr’s HPD ARC-03a stopped the clocks at 57.280 seconds to earn pole by 0.847 of a second over the Mazda Lola of Chris Dyson.
This weekend is the first race of the season where Luhr’s Muscle Milk squad is running the wider Michelin front tires – the same width as the rears on the HPD-powered machine.
In the P2 class, Level 5 Motorsport locked out a 1-2 result with Australian Ryan Briscoe edging out teammate Marino Franchitti. Briscoe has a busy weekend ahead. After racing for Level 5 tomorrow, he’ll fly to Pocono to contest IndyCar’s return to the fabled three-cornered oval.
In the GT class, BMW Team RLL also pulled out a 1-2 qualifying result with John Edwards stunning his teammates to score his first ALMS pole.
Brought in to fill in for Joey Hand who is on DTM duty in Germany this weekend, Edwards edged out his teammate Maxime Martin in the battle of the BMW young stars.
Other class pole winners included Colin Braun (PC) and Spencer Pumpelly (GTC).
Tomorrow’s two hour, 45 minute Lime Rock Grand Prix kicks off at 3:05pm and can be seen live on ESPN2.
