Luhr breaks ALMS win record

May 12, 2013

2013-05-11 at 21-36-40Muscle Milk Pickett Racing’s Lucas Luhr broke the record for the most wins in ALMS history when he scored the victory with Klaus Graf at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca today.

Luhr’s win tally now stands at 43 – one more than Olivier Beretta. He has 18 overall wins as part of that new record. His win tally has included success aboard Porsche, Audi, Aston Martin and Honda Performance Development machinery.

The German ace’s winning run has included:

2000: 4 wins 2004: 5 wins 2011: 4 wins
2001: 2 wins 2006: 3 wins 2012: 6 wins
2002: 7 wins 2008: 8 wins 2013: 2 wins

“I really don’t think about the record, I just think from race to race, it’s great to come here week-in, week-out and to compete in the LMP class, now with Rebellion, we have a really, really strong competitor with Nic and Jani,” Luhr said.

“In sports car racing, its not always about who has the quickest car. You need to have it quickest under all circumstances and in traffic.

“We had a little German discussion on the radio about the pit stop, I wanted to take tires, but they said, no you can’t. I knew I had to take a chance to get around Jani.

“Later we had a little coming together, but I don’t think it was anything on purpose, or mean, it was just bad circumstances. The way that he hit me, I didn’t think he was going to make the corner without me being there. I really thought, oh no, this is how it falls apart.

“But then I caught up to him and saw he had some damage too. I think a big thanks today from my side to the team, they just did so much today, it gives so much confidence to the driver going into the pits and you don’t have to worry because you know they’ll do it.”
