Just how good is the GT Le Mans (GTLM) competition in the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship? Consider this:
Every one of the 20 drivers entered here has at least one GTLM win in the series or the former American Le Mans Series GT Pro class.
With full-on factory teams from BMW, Corvette, Dodge Viper and Porsche joined by factory linked independent teams from Ferrari and Falken Porsche, the drivers, engineers mechanics, race strategists and team leaders are all internationally recognized as first rank.
In the first eight GTLM races of 2014, eight different drivers have won poles. The fastest race laps have also been set by eight different drivers.
Each Michelin technical partner team (BMW Team RLL, Corvette Racing, Dodge Viper, Porsche North America and Risi Competizione Ferrari has at least one pole, a fastest race lap, and three podiums.
Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia lead the TUDOR Championship with four class wins.
Porsche North America has put both cars in the winner’s circle in 2014 with Nick Tandy and Richard Lietz and teammates Patrick Long with Michael Christensen.
Dodge Viper’s Kuno Wittmer and Jonathan Bomarito and Risi Ferrari’s Giancarlo Fisichella and Pierre Kaffer are the most recent winners.
Andy Priaulx is the only regular driver in the TUDOR Championship to have been recognized by the Queen of England. The triple World Touring Car Champion was included in the Queen’s Birthday Honors List in 2008 when he was awarded an MBE – Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
The “gong”, as it is affectionately known, was given to him by Queen Elizabeth II at a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
So far in his first full season in the US the Guernsey driver has been on the podium three times with his team-mate Bill Auberlen, while in the American Le Mans Series he won the Twelve Hours of Sebring in 2011 with Joey Hand and Dirk Müller.
