• This year’s Long Beach race is 20 minutes longer and about 10 degrees warmer than last year’s.

• Extreme Speed Motorsports’ No. 01 Ferrari F458 Italia suffered severe damage in an accident in the first round of the season at Sebring. Putting the car back together for Long Beach was more of a pressure cooker than expected.

One of the team’s drivers, Johannes van Overbeek, said the team received the last spares from Ferrari to repair the damage on the new car. They only arrived late Thursday — still fortuitous timing as they were able to repair the car and not miss any of the limited track time on Friday. Van Overbeek will start the car and the team is planning one stop for the race.

• The No. 3 Corvette will start from the back of the grid after a post-qualifying tire change. Tommy Milner is first behind the wheel of the Corvette C6.R, with Olivier Beretta to finish.

• The No. 18 Performance Tech Oreca FLM09 in the LMP Challenge class will not start Saturday’s race, as a puncture to the tub from an accident in Friday qualifying sidelines them.
