Long and Porsche aim to pounce at night

long_porscheAs the race at Sebring enters its final four hours, Porsche North America remain in contention for a race victory in the GTLM class to back up their win in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Patrick Long, Joerg Bergmeister and Micahel Christensen were unlucky at Daytona when they had to watch their teammates spray the champagne but at Serbing they remain in strong contention in second place – trading postions with the Corvette squad.

long_porscheaMichelin Alley caught up with American ace Pat Long after his recent stint in the No.912 Porsche.

“That was a good stint. We had an unfortunate long period before they opened the pits on the last stop,” Long said.

“With the circumstances we fought back to get our track position. The two Corvettes are controlling the race but we hope when the temperature cools down we’ll have a bit more for them.  We’re just hitting our marks, keeping our nose clean and not getting caught up in anybody else’s race. When the sun goes down that’s when the race starts.”

“It wasn’t too dark here on the test night so I think it will be down to how the car reacts to the temperature change.

“The track is getting a lot of grip put down as the heat starts to taper. When darkness falls you’re going to see a whole different race come forward and we’ll see how it all pans out. “
