Flying Lizard Porsche is hoping good results packages come in threes.
Already primed to defend its season-long GT class and MICHELIN® GREEN X® Challenge (GT) championships for the third time, the first chance for an outright three-peat in 2011 comes this weekend at Long Beach.
The team has won each of the last two years with Jörg Bergmeister and Patrick Long, and that duo is paired up again in the latest evolution of the successful Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. New aerodynamic additions and its advanced front splitter highlight the changes on the revised, not reborn, 911.
With track time at a minimum and qualifying key more here than other races with such a short race (only two hours, the shortest of any on the ALMS calendar), the challenge increases. And in a GT field that is nothing short of stacked, a three-peat for the Lizards on the streets of Long Beach would be highly impressive.
The Lizards line up fourth on the GT class grid.
