Leonardo Di Caprio joins Formula E with Venturi

dicaprioThe final slot on the FIA Formula E grid has been locked in with Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio joining forces with Venturi Automobiles to confirm the 10th and final entry.

While he won’t be behind the wheel, DiCaprio follows in the footsteps of Hollywood heroes Steve McQueen, Paul Newman and Patrick Dempsey with a key involvement in motorsport.

DiCaprio has been nominated for three Academy Awards and nine Golden Globe Awards. He won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Aviator.

“The future of our planet depends on our ability to embrace fuel-efficient, clean-energy vehicles,” DiCaprio said.

“Venturi Grand Prix has shown tremendous foresight in their decision to create an environmentally friendly racing team, and I am happy to be a part of this effort.”

Venturi Automobiles is a French-founded Monte Carlo-based multinational automotive manufacturer, that designs, manufactures, and sells luxury electric vehicles.

The Venturi Grand Prix Formula E Team is the third team with key US involvement in the championship. IndyCar teams Andretti Autosport and Dragon Racing will also contest the inaugural electric championsip.

The championship will feature races in key city centers around the world with races scheduled in both Miami and Los Angeles.
