This is the eighth in a 24 Hours of Le Mans preview series. Check back to michelinracingusa.com for more features and posts in the coming days.
Team owner Giuseppe Risi can be proud of the dominance of his Ferrari squad in endurance races the last three years, but he continues to work hard to ensure the “rosso” red F430 GTs will stay there in a very deep GT2 field.
Risi Competizione has won the last six major endurance races in the ALMS and at Le Mans. They have won in succession: 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans, 2008 Petit Le Mans, 2009 12 Hours of Sebring, 2009 Le Mans, 2009 Petit, and 2010 Sebring.
Even more staggering is that these results have all come with the same car and a mostly unchanged driver lineup. The “rosso” red Ferrari, which carries No. 62 in ALMS and No. 82 at Le Mans, will again have Jaime Melo, Gianmaria Bruni and Pierre Kaffer at the wheel. Melo, Kaffer and Mika Salo won at Le Mans last year while Melo, Salo and Bruni won the 24 hour race in 2008.

The team’s second car for Krohn Racing, prepared by Risi, has managed its own bit of Le Mans success the past few years. The lime green car has twice finished on the podium in the last three years. Returning to defend or improve on its third place from last year is the No. 83 of Tracy Krohn, Nic Jonsson and Eric van de Poele.
Note: An update from post-midnight scrutineering by the ACO reports the No. 82 Risi Ferrari had its times disallowed due to a minor irregularity on the car’s rear wing. The car had qualified on the GT2 pole position.
