Le Mans GTE Preview: Corvette
Le Mans GTE Preview: Corvette
Michelin will have all 30 cars in the two GTE classes at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. Michelin Racing USA will take a look at all six manufacturers entered and their lineups. Here is a look at Corvette, which has two cars in GTE-Pro.
CORVETTE RACING
Quick overview: Corvette Racing will have its usual two cars in GTE-Pro, with the venerable C7.R now in its fifth year at Le Mans. The team’s eighth and most recent win here came in 2015. Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Jordan Taylor shared the team’s lone remaining entry after the second car was unable to start. This is Corvette Racing’s 19th consecutive Le Mans start in its 20th season of competition.
Changes from 2017: One change in the driver lineup as Jordan Taylor will not return to the team for Le Mans. He’s been part of the group for six straight years, from 2012 through 2017. He’s finished each of first, second, third, fourth and fifth in that span. Mike Rockenfeller will make his Corvette debut at Le Mans but is no stranger to the team’s endurance race program, having been with the team for three years in IMSA.
Test day recap: Corvette was middle of the pack in 10th and 11th in GTE-Pro. The No. 64 Corvette had a slight delay with a suspension issue, but the team fixed it right away.
Quotes of note: Here is a quick quote from Doug Fehan, Corvette Racing program manager:
“We learned a couple years ago, in 2015, you only need one (car). We’re very happy with our two-car team, we’re very happy with our driver lineup, and we’re happy with our experience. If we’ve got reliability, durability, and a little good luck, we’ll have our ninth championship at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”
