Le Mans 24 Hour – 20 Hour Update
And then there were two – a straight battle looms in the final stages of an enthralling 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans with one remaining Audi and Peugeot still in contention.
The #2 Audi held the lead with four hours to go with Benoit Treluyer at the wheel. The Peugeot of Simon Pagenaud was second, but the pair were swapping the race lead with each on differing pit stop patterns.
Treluyer actually completed five stints on a single set of Michelin tires as the race entered its final stages
Both the the #8 and #7 Peugeots are now both out of contention with Alex Wurz suffering a crash at Indianapolis and Stephane Sarrazin’s fightback from earlier delays hindered by a penalty incurred for the refueling man not having his visor in place. Both got back of track and sit third and fourth.
The AF Corse Ferrari continues to lead in GTE Pro with Toni Vilander at the wheel. The remaining Chevrolet of Tom Milner, Olivier Beretta and Antonio Garcia was second.
The Labre Competition Corvette continued its long run at the front of the GTE Am pack.
