Kendall no longer an ex-driver
Tommy Kendall’s Twitter profile lists him as an ex-racing driver. That is all about to change this weekend when the Trans-Am legend makes his American Le Mans Series debut with the new two-car SRT Viper squad.
Kendall was invited to a driver shootout and impressed the Bill Riley-run organization. Despite being out of competition action for a long time, he still had the speed.
The Californian dominated the SCCA Trans-Am Series in the 1990s, scoring four series championships. His greatest year came in 1997, when he managed to win every single race on the schedule, except for the last two—almost a perfect year.
He will team up this weekend with experience Belgian ace Marc Goosens aboard the No. 93 entry. Dominik Franbacher and Canadian young gun Kuno Wittmer drive the No. 91 machine.
Michelin Alley caught up with Kendall during the morning warm-up today at Mid-Ohio to talk about his comeback.
