Jon Bennett’s perfect day

January 26, 2014

CORE_daytona_winAfter three consecutive PC team championships, you would think you could class CORE autosport team owner Jon Bennett as one of the sport’s true high achievers.

Today however the South Carolina racer/businessman had a day that he won’t forget for a very long time.

Not only did he team up with Colin Braun, James Gue and Mark Wilkins to comfortably win the PC class at the Rolex 24 at Daytona – as the competition partner for Porsche’s GTLM program – CORE also was victorious in that class too.

After graduating from an IMSA Lites program with a small race shop, Bennett now has a state-of-the-art facility in Rock Hill, SC which houses both Porsche and PC programs.

After three years, they have already had to expand the facility’s trophy display shelving – after today’s performance – they may have to expand their entire facility to find room for all their trophies.

“Yeah, there’s not enough time or words, but obviously I’m very proud of my companies, both on the Porsche side and on the prototype side, and really thrilled to be with my co?drivers today,” Bennett said.

“As you can imagine, it’s quite a special day for me personally. Motorsports has always been very, very close to my heart. I’ve worked very, very hard to get here, and Porsche has been a brand that’s been always very close to my heart, and to kind of see both of those accomplishments crystallized in one day, it’s hard to put into words.

“I’m very, very happy for our client Porsche. They make a fantastic product, and I’m very, very proud to represent them. I’m very, very proud to represent all of the hard work that went into both the prototype side, and especially the Porsche startup of the factory effort. It’s quite beyond words, also, for the amount of work that went into getting ready for this race.

“It tingles. I can’t explain it. I’m very, very happy to be here, and I’m quite blessed. Thank you.”
