Techeetah FE entered the FIA Formula E championship as rookies at the start of the 2016-17 season, and now, at the final race of the year, they can call themselves winners with Jean-Eric Vergne scoring the Chinese team’s maiden win.

Vergne started the race from third on the grid behind Mahindra Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist and DS Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird.

The Frenchman took the lead after the pitstops, whittling down Rosenqvist’s lead and making the move in the last 10 laps.

“Finally the first win!” Vergne said.

“It’s been quite a long time without a win, so I didn’t remember that it was that nice, but now I get it.

“This race in Montreal was amazing. I always got very good results back in F1 in Montreal, so to get my first win in Montreal means so much to me.

“I can’t wait to be back here next year, but, mainly, I can’t wait for the Summer break to keep working hard with the team and be back on track again next season.”

Rosenqvist finished second, with DS Virgin Racing driver Jose Maria Lopez filling out the podium.

Bird held on to fourth despite struggling with bent steering in his first car with Rosenqvist’s Mahindra teammate Nick Heidfeld fifth.

Lucas Di Grassi drove to a seventh place finish in the Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport machine, enough to clinch the championship.

After leading the championship from the outset until the conclusion of Saturday’s race, Sebastien Buemi finished the season 24 points behind Di Grassi, with 157 to the Brazillian’s 181.

Buemi’s team, however, the Renault e.Dams squad, was able to clinch the constructor’s title over Di Grassi’s Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport team.
