Italian Jarno Trulli drove for six different teams in his 252 race starts in Formula 1 but now the Italian veteran is learning what life is like as a team boss while also staying in the cockpit.

The former Minardi, Prost, Jordan, Renault, Toyota and Lotus driver debuted with his own team in FIA Formula E this year with Michela Cerruti as his teammate. For this weekend’s round on the streets of Miami, fellow ex-Formula 1 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi steps into the team’s second car.

“I have so many years in motorsport that I know what I have to do as a team owner to do things properly, even though there are always new things to learn. I am very happy that I am doing it.”

Driving the car while also running the team has provided its share of challenges for the Italian veteran.

“It is quite a big challenge – tougher than expected – but I am dealing reasonably well with it,” Trulli said.

“There are still times that are quite hard because there things running around your head about the team.”

trulli_1Trulli is confident that the FIA Formula E championship will provide breakthroughs that will also improve the road car of the future.

“FIA Formula E is definitely the peak of electric motorsport – like Formula 1 with an electric engine,” Trulli said.

“There is still a lot to do but that is the reason why we are racing to develop the technology so you’ll see this same technology in two, three or five years time in road cars.

“This is the trend and the only way to sustain our life quality. It is important that we are all committed about it.”
