Jan’s new ride

Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen has been in fine form of late – winning back-to-back races and leading the GT championship with Antonio Garcia.

While he normally flies in from his home in Denmark, both Magnussen and Garcia drove a second Camaro for Stevenson Motorsports in the Rolex Series finale last weekend.

Rather than fly back home, he headed to Corvette Racing’s base in Michigan and hitched a ride with the team trucks en route to VIR.

“It was a good trip down from Detroit. I rode down with the Corvette Racing trucks. I’ve done it once before, many years ago, with the Panoz truck. I really, really enjoyed it, so I thought I’d have another go at it,” Magnussen said.

“That’s probably not the last time I’ll do that! It’s cool to see a little bit of the country like that.

“I doubt I’m going to take up driving trucks after I retire but it was still pretty cool to see what the guys do.”

Magnussen and Garcia can clinch the GT championship this weekend, but their title aspirations depend on them winning plus BMW’s Dirk Mueller not finishing on the podium or Corvette teammates Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner not finishing in the top three.

“It’s not a situation where we can clinch the championship by just doing things right. The only way we can clinch it is if we do everything right and a couple of other guys get in trouble,” Magnussen said.

“All we can aim for is to go there, have a strong race and go to Petit with as big of a margin as possible. That would take some pressure off Petit.”
