IMSA News Recap; Pre-ROAR Notes
January 2, 2019
On Wednesday, IMSA released driver lineups in all three series participating in the ROAR Before the Rolex 24 weekend.
Here’s a round-up of notes across the board:
- Consistency is once again key at Corvette Racing. The team presents an unchanged lineup to its pair of Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.Rs. The same full-season quartet of Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner return for an eighth straight year, a run that dates to 2012. Additionally, Mike Rockenfeller (No. 3) and Marcel Fassler (No. 4) open the year as third drivers for the first two Michelin Endurance Cup races in Daytona and Sebring. Its full release is here.
- Mazda Team Joest revealed its 2019 lineup and other personnel changes as Joest and Mazda prepare for their second year together. Olivier Pla (No. 55), Timo Bernhard and Rene Rast (No. 77) join the team’s Michelin Endurance Cup lineup. Rast’s confirmation is only for the first two races. Personnel-wise, the team formally announced Jan Lange as new CEO of Mazda Team Joest and Chris Mower as Team Coordinator. That team’s release is here.
- With its lineups confirmed, Action Express Racing made a partner announcement for its No. 5 Mustang Sampling Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R. Galp, an integrated energy company based in Lisbon, Portugal, will partner with Mustang Sampling Racing as a key component to Galp’s marketing activation in North America. Here’s that release. Additionally, here is a video of the team’s 2019 preview.
- Risi Competizione will have at least Davide Rigon and Miguel Molina among its four drivers in its No. 62 Ferrari 488 GTE. Rick Mayer’s usual engineering insights ahead of the Roar are linked here.
- AIM Vasser Sullivan has announced the quartet of drivers to round out its Rolex 24 at Daytona lineup. Road to Indy veteran Aaron Telitz is the team’s first confirmed Michelin Endurance Cup driver in the No. 12 Lexus RC F GT3. Meanwhile Jeff Segal (No. 12), Austin Cindric and Nick Cassidy (No. 14) are the other three Daytona extras. Cindric, additionally, is listed in a MICHELIN Pilot Challenge Ford Mustang GT4 for Multimatic Motorsports.
- Porsche GT Team driver Laurens Vanthoor will miss the ROAR test for good reason. His wife is expecting and he does not want to miss the birth of his new child. Just Earl Bamber and Mathieu Jaminet will share the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR this test, with Vanthoor expected back for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
