Hot stuff in Sebring
Hot stuff in Sebring
The track and the competition has been heating up today for the 63rd Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Drivers and teams have been doing battle for 12 hours on bumpy, steamy hot, low grip circuit which provides challenges all race long.
Track temperatures here at Sebring International Raceway have been hot and hotter and this week. Qualifying saw 93 degrees air temperatures with concrete track sections at 106 and the track’s asphalt sections at 118 degrees (48 C). The highest track temperatures recorded by Michelin trackside engineers during the 2014 race was 97 degrees (36 C).
Today temps have reached as high at 125 degrees before cloud cover and the setting sun started to send temps in the other direction.
Corvette Racing’s Dan Binks, crew chief on the 2015 Rolex 24 At Daytona GTLM class winning #3 Corvette says, “The track is very slick and the heat just magnifies any issues. If the car is loose or has understeer, the heat will make it worse. Drivers want to be careful not to overdrive the car as they will slide around and make things even more difficult.”
