Hot qualifying at Lime Rock Park
With track temperatures soaring to more than 120 degrees, the on-track action in qualifying at Lime Rock Park was equally as hot.
The P1 battle between Dyson Racing and Muscle Milk Pickett Racing was intense. Lucas Luhr set the pace early before Guy Smith bounced back for Dyson to take quick time.
Luhr headed back on track and strung together a series of amazing laps but couldn’t go quick enough. Right before the checkered flag, Smith went another 10th of a second faster to top the timesheets at 44.017 seconds.
In the P2 class, Level 5 Motorsports led with a 1-2 – Christophe Bouchut leading Scott Tucker.
The PC class had a completely different look to proceedings. While CORE autosport has dominated with three consecutive wins this year, the best they could do today was 4th and 5th – the car of Tom Kimber-Smith actually having a spin and tagging the wall.
Kyle Marcelli took his first pole for the year in the car he’ll share with Anthony Downs tomorrow. Bruno Junqueira was second fastest ahead of Butch Leitzinger who is celebrating his 100th ALMS race this weekend.
Fellow “Centurion” Bill Auberlen scored the pole in GT for BMW. Auberlen, Leitzinger, Jan Magnussen and Joerg Bergmeister are all celebrating their 100th ALMS start this weekend.
