Two teams have their home race at Mid-Ohio this weekend and are searching for their first victories of the season.

The BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team, based in Hilliard, has had a good measure of success this year. The team’s two M3s have a combined seven podiums from 10 starts (5 races), and rank second in the manufacturer’s championship just one point behind Porsche (93-92). The all-American pairing of Bill Auberlen and Tommy Milner (No. 92) are second in the driver’s championship and Joey Hand and Dirk Mueller (No. 90) are tied for third.

Team co-owner Bobby Rahal has two things on his mind this weekend — seeing his ALMS team get on the top step of the podium for the first time this season, and also playing the role of dad for son Graham, who races in the IndyCar Series event at Mid-Ohio on Sunday.

In prototypes, Intersport Racing marks the trip to Ohio with two cars looking to capture the checkers. Based in Dublin, Intersport fields cars in both the LMP and LMPC classes. The father-and-son duo of Jon and Clint Field in the black-and-white No.37 have led three races this season and just had their first podium finish of the season at Lime Rock.

The new No. 89 in LMPC has yet to finish better than fourth in class this season, but young drivers Brian Wong and Kyle Marcelli have made strides in the right direction in their first ALMS seasons. Marcelli qualified second in the LMPC class at Lime Rock and has the stability of being in the same team the rest of the season after previously driving for the Primetime and Genoa teams in the first three races.
