Happy hunting ground for Guy Smith
Happy hunting ground for Guy Smith
There will be a pair of Aston Martins chasing a pair of Mazdas at the start of tomorrow’s eighth round of the American Le Mans Series after Dyson Racing’s Guy Smith scored the pole today.
Twelve months after earning his first ALMS pole here last year, Smith again proved to be the man to beat – setting a best time of 1:13.927.
Teammate Steven Kane was second fastest ahead of the returning Aston Martin Racing factory squad with Adrian Fernandez behind the wheel.
Championship chasers Muscle Milk Aston Martin Racing were not as happy with the car, Klaus Graf only able to set the fourth fastest time of the day – but content knowing tomorrow’s six-hour enduro could certainly be a race filled with attrition and action.
After suffering bad luck in practice and unable to record a flying lap in practice or qualifying at Baltimore, the Muscle Milk squad eventually recovered to score fourth place points.
Dyson Racing know full well that reliability will be the key to its championship hopes – the team’s chances of a race win last year were ruined by a late race mechanical failure.
