Muscle Milk Pickett Racing’s Lucas Luhr celebrated his 21st American Le Mans Series pole position today by dominating qualifying at Road America today.

2013-08-09 at 16-55-04Luhr was totally dominant to score pole by more than two seconds over Chris McMurry while the DeltaWing of Katherine Legge ended up third fastest after only recording one representative lap – right as the checkered flag fell.

“We struggled a bit in the beginning from the temperature difference between today and today,” Luhr said.

“And we are running the wide front tires so it takes some time getting them up to temperature. But at the end we got the speed. It’s so fun driving around here at Road America. It is a unique place and one of the best tracks in the world.

“The HPD Muscle Milk Honda ran perfect like always and the Michelin tires are great.

“This track is strange from corner to corner this year. There are so many types of tires here this weekend. So the rubber all over the track is making it tough for each corner to be consistent.

“As we run lap after lap through the race we’ll clear it out and have a better groove, but it could be interesting at the start.”

Luhr is set to make his IndyCar debut at the upcoming round of the IZOD IndyCar Series at Sonoma on August 25 – an opportunity orchestrated through Honda Performance Development.

He and German co-driver Klaus Graf hold a dominant lead in the P1 championship – the final year of the American Le Mans Series.
