Half way update: Sebring 12 Hour

March 16, 2013

viper_pitThe Audi steamroller continued to head the pack at the half way mark of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Six-time Sebring winner Tom Kristensen held the race lead over Benoit Treluyer – the No.2 leading the No.1 in the Audi battle.

Klaus Graf and the Muscle Milk squad had made it back up to third despite losing a wheel earlier in the race. Behind the HPD was the pair of Rebellion Lolas with Nicolas Prost and Andrea Belicchi at the wheel.

In P2 it was heartache for Extreme Speed Motorsports with the HPD suffering a input drive failure while leading with David Brabham at the wheel.

This handed the lead over to Brabham’s former Highcroft teammate Marino Franchitti aboard the No.551 Level 5 Motorsport entry. Scott Tucker was second in the sister car while Tom Kimber-Smith and the Greaves Motorsport Zytek Nissan was a couple of laps adrift in third.

In GT the Risi Ferrari was back in the lead with Oliver Beretta at the wheel but the No.91 SRT Viper had been the star of the show.

Impressive stints by Dominik Farnbacher and Ryan Dalziel pushed the Viper into the lead for an ALMS race for the first time since their return to the sport at Mid-Ohio last season.

After the pit stops during the yellow caused by Brabham stopping on course, Viper veteran Marc Goosens resumed in 5th but was quickly making moves back up the pack to fourth.

Pre-race pacesetters Corvette have had a troubled race with the No.3 car suffering gearbox issues and enduring long visits to the paddock for repairs. The No.4 car had a number of electrical issues resulting in Oliver Gavin losing the dash, air conditioning and pit lane speed limiter.
