Half way home at Petit

October 1, 2011

The 14th running of Petit Le Mans has reached the half way mark with the Peugeot vs Audi battle in full swing.

Peugeot’s Stephane Sarrazin held the lead by a lap over the Marcel Fassler Audi – the Audi delayed by a penalty incurred when the crew sprayed water on the brakes during the pit stop while refueling.

The contentious point of the ruling is the ability to “work” on the car during refueling.  The crew did not touch the car, but they were attempting to cool the brakes.

The ORECA Peugeot of Nic Minassian held onto fourth place at the half way mark ahead of Adrian Fernandez in the factory Aston Martin.

Level 5 Motorsport continued to head the LMP2 pack with the #33 HPD.  JK Vernay held second in the Signature Nissan – a lap adrift of the Level 5 machine.

Gunnar Jeannette and Ricardo Gonzalez’s championship chances were looking good at the half way point in LMPC, but a handful of laps later, Jeannette had come to a stop at pit exit with a power steering belt failure.

In the championship chase – the CORE autosport duo held a 35 lap over the Eric Lux Genoa car which had driveline issues earlier.  The race was now on in the paddock to get the car back on track.  The battle for the championship between CORE and Genoa could come down to who is quicker in the paddock.

Extreme Speed Motorsport is having its best ever GT race for Ferrari with Dominik Farnbacher leading the class aboard the Ferrari.

Andy Priaulx was second for BMW but soon was forced back to pit lane after suffering its second puncture of the race.

The AF Corse Ferrari was third at half way with Giancarlo Fisichella at the wheel.
