GT title leader Magnussen tired of 2nd place
GT points leaders Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia are thrilled to be leading the championship, but tired of being the bridesmaid throughout the 2012 American Le Mans Series.
The Danish/Spanish combo has scored four running up placings in five races so far this year.
They came close at the previous round, Magnussen losing a position on the final lap after challenging Flying Lizard Racing’s Joerg Bergmeister for the win.
Losing that position turned extra sour for Corvette Racing after the Lizard’s Porsche was excluded for failing the stall test post race – handing the Extreme Speed Ferrari team their first series victory.
Magnussen has taken a race win in every year of the American Le Mans Series since its inception in 1999. Magnussen now figures taking some more will help cement the seven point lead he and Garcia share over teammates Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner.
“I’m going for wins. All the time,” Magnussen said.
“We’ve proven all through the season so far that we are right where we need to be, we just need things to happen in the right way. We’re right there and I’m sure the wins will come. There’s no doubt in my mind.
“We are leading the points, but with so many races to go you can’t think too much about it. With wins come the most points and that’s what we need to keep the competition behind.”
