Green flag at Road America

The opening hour at Road America has been action packed with a yellow flag just before the one hour mark shaking up the standings.

Early leader Klaus Graf had an extended pit stop after 40 minutes – losing four laps while repairing a water leak.

This left Chris Dyson and the Dyson Lola Mazda combination to take the overall lead.

A crash in the PC class has dramatic championship implications. Rudy Junco suffered heavy impact with the wall aboard the PR1 Mathieson Motorsports car – putting them out of the race possibly giving early class leader CORE autosport the chance to clinch its second consecutive team’s championship. The crash also again left Marino Franchitti without any race laps – repeating his misfortune from Le Mans and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

CORE’s Tom Kimber-Smith starred early to grab the PC class lead while teammate Alex Popow made a dash from Montreal aboard a helicopter and private jet after he started the Grand-Am race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

In GT, early pit stops for the No.55 BMW or Joerg Mueller and No.3 Corvette of Antonio Garcia just before Junco’s crash also gave them a huge track position jump. The rest of the GT pack including early race leader Joerg Bergmeister all pitted under yellow while Mueller and Garcia were able to stay out and resume 1-2 on the road.

In P2, David Hanneimeir Hanson took Conquest Racing to the lead over Scott Tucker.
