Muscle Milk Racing’s Klaus Graf grabbed his team’s first Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca pole position today – topping the timesheets in qualifying in preparation for tomorrow’s third round of the 2012 American Le Mans Series.

Graf stopped the clocks at 1:13.573 – a massive 1.785 seconds quicker than his nearest rival. The Muscle Milk team used their same Michelin “street soft” tires from the previous street race at Long Beach to good effect.

In the P2 class, Christophe Bouchut made is a happy day for the Honda Performance Development crew. The Level 5 Motorsports driver scored the class pole to give HPD the top spot in both P1 and P2.

In the PC class, ex-IndyCar racer Bruno Junqueira took his second pole of the year – backing up his performance from Sebring. With Long Beach qualifying cancelled due to bad weather, the Brazilian now has a perfect qualifying record.

Two-time Le Mans class winner Tom Kimber-Smith took second for CORE autosport in his ALMS debut.

The level of competition in the GT class raised to a new level with Aston Martin taking the class pole with Darren Turner. The Aston Martin vs BMW vs Corvette vs Ferrari vs Porsche battle is expected to be fierce tomorrow for the duration of the six-hour event.

Saturday’s race will be broadcast live on ESPN3 starting at 4:15 p.m. ET / 1:15 p.m. PT.   Live timing and scoring for the race are available at www.alms.com.
