Graf Muscles to Top in Practice #2
The track was dry and the sun poking through the cloud cover as Klaus Graf put the ALMS P1 championship leading Muscle Milk Pickett Racing Honda atop the board in the afternoon practice here at Road Atlanta with a best lap of 1:11.209.
Graf and co-driver Lucas Luhr have combined for six overall race wins in 2012 and are joined here by Romain Dumas, a former ALMS champion and Le Mans race winner.
Second on the time sheet was Guy Smith in the #16 Dyson Racing Lola/Mazda at 1:12.037. Third quickest was the Rebellion Racing Toyota of Nicolas Prost at 1:12.325.
Leading the P2 class again was the #35 Oak Racing Morgan/Nissan driven by Olivier Pla at 1:12.758 over the Level 5 #055 driven by Indy Car star Dario Franchitti.
In PC, it was Dempsey Racing’s Ryan Lewis with a last lap flyer at 1:16.360 on top over Elton Julian’s 1:17.316 aboard the PR1 Mathiasen Motropsports #52 and the 1:17. 591 by Bruno Junquiera in the #9 RSR Racing
The #55 BMW Team RLL entry driven by Jorg Mueller led the tight GT pack with a 120.137. The #45 Flying Lizard Porsche of Joerg Bergmeister clocked in at 1:20.170 followed closely by the #3 Corvette of Jan Magnussen at 120 327.
Next up is night practice, where each driver must complete three laps to become familiar with racing in the darkness on the hilly 2.54 mile circuit.
