Can Muscle Milk reverse Baltimore fortunes?
Muscle Milk Racing’s Klaus Graf scored his second pole of the year and his team’s fourth fastest qualifying spot of 2013 by dominating qualifying on the streets of Baltimore today.
The HPD P1 German star stopped the clocks at 1:25.290 – setting a new qualifying track record for the 2.04 mile 12-turn street circuit.
Graf and teammate Lucas Luhr have the possibility of clinching the P1 class championship this weekend. However, the Muscle Milk squad have endured horrendous luck here in Baltimore in the past and have yet to win here in the event’s two year history.
“The Muscle Milk car was really performing well in qualifying today,” Graf said.
“The track changed a lot today. The IndyCars ran before qualifying so there was a lot of grip. The difficulty is for the drivers it to anticipate the grip level.
“We got quicker and quicker every lap. Based on the data we had and the changes we made, we did it perfectly. It was a really good lap for me and session.
“I was playing around with the brake bias to see if I could get some extra braking in turn one, but they are very sensitive so i got a bit of a half spin but you know, you try to get every advantage you can. After that i just tried to get out of everyone’s way.”
