Graf and Luhr take wet & wild win
Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr took a step closer to the American Le Mans Series points lead after taking their third victory of the season in a wet and wild race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course today.
After qualifying second, Luhr set chase after last year’s race winning Mazda of Guy Smith at the green flag, but was unable to find a way past. He finally made the move after a mid-race yellow flag safety car period – passing into turn 1 off the start.
The German then pulled out a lead of around 20 seconds before pitting to hand over to teammate Klaus Graf.
Graf continued to hold a strong lead – holding steady at the front despite a torrential downpour which drenched the circuit, sent all cars back to the pits for wet tires, and seemingly forced half the entry off track while scrambling for grip.
Graf didn’t put a foot wrong as the team celebrated victory two years after first bringing their distinctive white, black and red colors back to the ALMS at this same race two years ago.
The win by the Muscle Milk Aston Martin team pulled Graf and Luhr four points closer to the championship lead – bringing it down to 22 points..
