Getting Wet at Lime Rock?
Getting Wet at Lime Rock?
We could be in for the first wet sessions of the 2010 American Le Mans Series season, as rain is in the forecast today. The first morning session will roll off at 11:30 a.m. ET, then a pre-qualifying practice at 3:00 p.m. and qualifying from 4:10-5:00.
As ALMS regulations allow for only one specification of wet weather tires to be brought to the track, Michelin has brought sets of full wet compound tires for its teams to use in wet conditions.
If all of qualifying is washed out by rain, but practice runs smoothly, practice times will be used to set the grid. If some of qualifying takes place but is not completed, the times will be erased and revert back to practice times. If there is no on-track activity at all, the starting grid will be set by owner points in the four classes, according to ALMS series officials.
The only thing that would pose a major threat to any times would be standing water and puddle problems. Cars and drivers will still run in the wet unless it is a torrential downpour.
