After Saturday’s American Le Mans Series race at Long Beach ended, Oliver Gavin was not finished with his weekend. The Corvette Racing star ran a marathon around the streets of Long Beach for a good cause bright and early Sunday morning.
Gavin, who ran last year’s Virgin London Marathon as part of the British Racing Drivers Club, set up his own 8.8-mile loop to run this weekend. He’s running for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, his selected charity this year as one of his daughter’s best friends suffers from Cystic Fibrosis.
“So far we’ve raised about $50 to $60,000,” he said in a pre-run interview. “It has good support and a good amount of people so far.
“The plan is to start running at 6:30 a.m., from the Westin (Hotel). I’ll be running along the beach, to the end of Ocean (Blvd.) It will loop around and back.”
While Gavin ran the loop three times, he ran the last nine with his countryman Guy Smith of Dyson Racing.
Gavin finished second on Saturday in the ALMS race, with the goal of finishing this marathon to raise money for the organization and for his countrymen abroad in Great Britain.
