Races – and championships – can be won and lost in the pit lane. Ferrari, Porsche and Corvette all suffered severely in Saturday’s Petit Le Mans with a dramatic accident in pit lane.
Risi Ferrari’s Pierre Kaffer stopped at the red light at the end of pit lane only to be collected by the Porsche of Patrick Pilet – who in turn was hit by the Corvette of Jan Magnussen.
The incident took all three out of contention for the race win at Petit Le Mans. Fortunately for the championship contenders from the Dodge Viper squad – neither the car of eventual champion Kuno Wittmer nor Jonathan Bomarito was affected by the crash.
